I used to work on this boat, which we lovingly referred to as the "Barf Cat". Her actual name is "Wharf Cat", and she runs out of Fisherman's Wharf in Port Aransas. I loved sitting at the helm of that boat, running offshore to the fishing grounds. Many a mile I piloted her while the skipper caught a snooze after a long day...
I'm the good lookin' dude there on the left : )
The thing I loved most about it was that the crew was a tight knit bunch. We worked together, and we played together. Captains Danny and Marvin were awesome. Great folks to work for...
If it were up to me, I'd have my captain's license, and I'd be running this boat, or some other. I love the camaraderie of a small crew, and being at sea. Sure, there can and will be a few who don't fit, but they eventually leave. You can't have friction on a small vessel, because it will quickly explode into something much bigger, and bring things to a halt. Fortunately, most folks recognize where they're not wanted and go work elsewhere. It's just like that in the maritime trades. Cohesion is critical, and people know it. Not to mention the fact that a crew can make life a living hell for someone who doesn't fit in : )
I think I'm going to change tacks as far as my "career" goes. The half dozen boat trips I get per year at work just isn't cutting it. I want to be on the water. I was born to be on the water. And I'm going to get there come hell or high water...

might as well; it will get you away from wife and siblings whom are causing premature aging....
go for it!

Make it happen, Mayberry, or you'll never be happy.
May we meet on the water some fine day.
Wildflower, I am going for it.
Sixbears, you're right. I hope we do!
I know well what you mean about the 'crew' having to get along. Tour buses hold 12 peeps (feet forward) and when you are doing 6 cities a week with on full travel day, you had better be tight, or have your jaw wired shut.(and if you don't, someone may help you with that little problem.)
Heck, you are in a better position for a 'career change' right now having lost the mortgage. Close to the water won't hurt either.
Good luck brother, and God speed to you.
This is good for you you are getting out of that box. Sorry about the family I'm dealing with the BS as well. Save yourself first, then you can save others.
Hi Mayberry,
Get thee to a boat-ery! And write about it.
Dave
Hmmm, I've often wondered what you look like. Can't say I'm disappointed, you look just like me; handsome, snotty, humble, opiniated, loyal, loving, tough, ....
depending on the circumstance and company....

Dio, a bus is a lot closer than a boat! I can imagine... Looks like the career change won't happen, lots of mariners on unemployment I find. Thanks again Obammy...
Adventures, just when I try to climb out, somebody done taped it shut...
Dave, ain't happenin'. Gonna have to work another angle...
Texred, you my long lost twin? Not that I really had one... Thanks!
