Haven't had too much to write about lately (and I've been busy). I was off yesterday, so I went to visit a friend I haven't seen in a while.
He owns his own business. It's doing ok, but he was griping about taxes, and looking for ways to minimize what Uncle Sugar could steal from him, even if that meant spending money on things he didn't necessarily need. Good for him sez I!
An interesting thing about hanging around my friend's shop is that a lot of other folks stop by throughout the day, and it's interesting to hear what they're talking about. I don't push any subjects, just let the conversation flow where it will. When politics or the economy came up, the thoughts expressed were pretty universal; it sucks, it's getting worse, hope it gets better. The "dislike" for Obammy was evident.
I've found, pretty much across the board in my little corner of the world, that those who work for a living are basically good people. They share many of the beliefs, values, and ideas that I hold dear. And the only thing holding them back from reaching their full potential, and happiness in life, is government; excessive taxation specifically. But for some reason, these folks still hold on to the notion that some miracle will occur in November, and that same government which now stands in their way will magically transform, and everything will be unicorns and lollipops again.
These folks are intelligent. All they need is a little push in the right direction to open up their eyes. Just the gentlest of nudges would open up their minds to the fact that there is no salvation in government, and maintaining the status quo is a suicidal pursuit. Because I value my friendship, I don't want to come right out and make that push. It's something folks have to figure out for themselves. All I can or will do is drop a hint here, or make a subtle comment there. The rest is up to them.
I write here on this blog hoping my friends will find it, and all the others that are about Freedom and Liberty. I have certainly found many new friends here, and for that I am thankful. It's folks like us who will be there when the time to rebuild after the collapse comes. The more, the merrier...

I gotta agree with your friend Mayberry, as a business owner myself I have found that I to am buying things I might not need at the moment just to make it work, Feeding my family will come before some lazy welfare addict.
Scott, I hear ya. I'd much rather support another business than a bunch of parasites...
"All they need is a little push in the right direction"! (Yeah..like right over a fuckin' cliff)!
"These folks are intelligent"?
I don't know Mayb', if someone sees something is terribly wrong yet doesn't seek the cause then the solution..there ain't no intelligence there!
If ya don't stop the cause ya won't stop the bleedin'..
My 2 cents.
These are the type of people who think they can keep thier head down and not take sides and the government will let them keep their lifestyle. Today's NEP men. They are the first to inform on you.
Hi Mayberry,
Your optimism is sweet and endearing, but I think Northwoods has the more realistic take on this. Sometimes I hate being so pessimistic. Mrs. UC calls me "Mr. Doom and Gloom".
The average working stiff is mildly irritated by the constant wars and bank bailouts, but take away his unemployment insurance or social security and he'd howl like he was gutted. Anyone at the public teat is NOT looking for "change."
Dave
As a former employer who saw this coming, but not to this extent, I can attest to doing things to benefit you and yours and no one else. Your friend will be wise to pay down everything that he can and to also slim down as best that he can so that when the SHTF he can still conduct some sort of commerce with the people that he knows. I have found three sets of people in this world right now Mayberry. Those that are oblivious to what is going on 60%, those that can't believe that it will happen and that someone will prevent it 30% and the last ten percent who are prepping like crazy and changing their life style to accomodate the reality of what is going to happen. You might be able to convince some but most are going to become the slaves when the SHTF because they have been conditioned to be that way.
prepare for the worst but hope for the best!!!!
Sorry, but we are still fighting the media - if only the survivalists, common sense people had their own network like Fox news and their own political party - it would be so simple to brainwash with our concepts. Just this week i was talking to the guy who is going to install my woodstove and he was saying how THANKFUL he was that the healthcare bill was passed. Mind you this man owns a small woodstove business, lives out here in the country and is pretty much self sufficient on his farm, etc.. I wont get into the details of why he felt that way, but let me tell you i told him my opinion as nice as i could, and he just stared at me for a few seconds and said "i hate Fox news!!! I said, i am not talking about Fox news. LOL I am talking about reality here, i get my opinions from what i see going on around me, etc. etc. not any biased news outlet - the democrats and republican are a fraudulant two party scam!!!!
Too make a long story short, its not just the gravy train that votes this crap in office and takes what they shove, but the hard working joe shmoe that is brainwashed into thinking it is all for our own good - WE sure do have a long way to go before a majority of people truly understand what has happened to this country.
North, brainwashing is a hard thing to overcome. Took me 30 years...
Anon 8:02, they can inform all they want. When it comes down to that, I'll be in the wind...
Dave, maybe so. But they are my friends, and I stand by my friends. They might get the hint...
Golf, he's doing those things. Trying to nudge him into that 10% column...
Chicken, if only we could get folks to turn off the TV...
Thanks to media and publik skools programming, people like their slavery. When I told someone that politicians that are trying to take my 401k/IRA were scumbags that need a bullet to the head, I was told that I should be more 'civil'.
Yeah, if a thief comes into my house I get to still shoot his ass; if a politicians does it through legal means, well, hell we get 'to vote' on it.
